Braze Asteroids Free Play and High Score Save Kit — Features & Install 📄 Installation Guide (PDF) Key Features Installs in minutes — no special wiring or soldering required. Top 10 high scores and initials are saved permanently (no batteries ever). Extended scoring: maximum score increased from 99,990 to 9,999,990. Fix for the Atari REV2 bug that erased the last initial on the 10th score. Compatibility & Included Parts This kit targets the REV2 version of Asteroids. For proper compatibility, a REV2 vector EPROM is required. Refer to the install guide’s “Revisions” section to confirm whether your board is REV1 or REV2. Installation Overview Power down and open your cabinet to access the PCB. Carefully remove the 6502 CPU from the Asteroids board. Insert the 6502 CPU into the included daughter card. Plug the daughter card into the vacated 6502 CPU socket on the board. Power on and follow the install guide to verify operation. How to Clear High Scores Put the game into Self Test using the cabinet’s self-test switch. While in Self Test, press and hold all four buttons: Left, Right, Fire, and Thrust. The screen will display “ERASED” confirming the clear. (Same procedure as Asteroids Deluxe.) FAQ Where can I download the install guide? Download Install Guide (PDF) Do I need to solder anything? No. The kit installs without soldering or special wiring. How long does installation take? Typically just a few minutes with basic PCB handling. Will my scores survive power-off? Yes. The top 10 scores and initials are stored permanently with no batteries required. What is “extended scoring”? The kit raises the maximum score from 99,990 to 9,999,990 to prevent rollover at 100K. Which board revisions are supported? The kit is based on REV2. A REV2 vector EPROM is required and included. Use the install guide to check your current revision. Does it fix the missing last initial? Yes. It fixes the REV2 bug that erased the final initial on the 10th entry.
