About Mad Planets Arcade Upgrades
Mad Planets was released by Gottlieb and runs on original arcade PCB hardware using an 8088 processor. HighScoreSaves upgrade kits are designed to work with that original hardware while adding features that were not available on the factory board.
High Score Saving
The Mad Planets kit adds battery-free high score retention so supported scores remain saved after the cabinet is powered off. The kit also maintains separate score tables based on supported game settings.
Free Play and Game Settings
Free Play allows the game to be started without inserting coins while still retaining normal coin operation when desired. Additional supported settings can be adjusted through the on-screen menu, including lives, bonus-life options, attract sounds, and other game-specific features.
Standard and Wi-Fi Enabled Kits
Standard kits store high scores locally on the arcade hardware. Wi-Fi Enabled kits include the same local score-saving features and add the ability to upload qualifying scores to the HighScoreSaves online leaderboard system.
Installation on Original Gottlieb Hardware
The upgrade installs at the original 8088 processor location. When the processor is already socketed, installation is straightforward and does not require soldering. If the original processor is soldered directly to the PCB, a compatible socket must be installed before the kit can be fitted.
Preserve the Original Mad Planets PCB
HighScoreSaves kits are intended for collectors and arcade owners who want additional functionality without replacing the original game board with an emulation-based system. The original Gottlieb PCB remains the heart of the cabinet.
