Galaxian Free Play and High Score Save Kit
Upgrade a documented compatible original Galaxian arcade PCB with Free Play, permanent Top 5 score saving with player initials, attract sounds, Original or FAST bullet speed, menu-driven settings, ROM Saver support, and optional Wi-Fi leaderboard submission.
This HighScoreSaves daughterboard continues to use the original Galaxian PCB, Z80 processor, controls, video hardware, sound hardware, timing, and original gameplay. It does not replace the game board with an emulator, reproduction PCB, or generic multicade system.
Galaxian Kit Highlights
Start Galaxian without inserting coins while retaining traditional coin-up operation when Free Play is disabled.
Permanently stores the five highest supported scores together with qualifying player initials.
Select the original Galaxian bullet speed or the optional FAST setting through the kit menu.

Upgrade Original Galaxian Arcade Hardware
The HighScoreSaves Galaxian kit adds modern score saving, Free Play, menu access, attract options, and optional Wi-Fi functionality while continuing to operate the original arcade PCB.
Original Galaxian control input, graphics generation, sound hardware, board timing, and core game behavior remain part of the original machine.
This is an original-hardware upgrade rather than a replacement game board, computer, emulator, or multicade platform.
Free Play and Permanent High Scores
Permanently retains the five highest supported Galaxian scores.
Stores qualifying player initials with supported saved scores.
Uses serial EEPROM storage rather than a score-save battery or NVRAM.
Maintains supported high-score tables for two-, three-, and four-life settings.
Back up and restore supported high-score data through the kit menu.
Enable Free Play or retain traditional coin operation when desired.
Original and FAST Bullet Speed
The HighScoreSaves menu includes two supported Galaxian bullet-speed choices: Original and FAST.
Select Original to retain standard Galaxian projectile speed or enable FAST when you want the alternate faster setting.
Attract Sounds, Fast Boot, and Menu Settings
- Attract sounds: Enable supported audio during Galaxian attract operation.
- Attract-mode screen saver: Helps reduce long periods of static screen imagery during idle operation.
- Menu-driven DIP settings: Adjust supported game and operator settings through the on-screen menu.
- Fast Boot: Provides faster supported game initialization and startup.
- ROM Saver: Allows designated original program ROM hardware to be removed when following the supported ROM Saver configuration.
- Saved configuration: Supported settings remain stored locally by the kit.
Galaxian Settings Menu Access
With the cabinet powered off, press and hold Player 1 Start while turning the game on.
Release Player 1 Start when instructed by the on-screen prompt. This opens the protected main settings menu.
Galaxian Z80 Daughterboard Installation
The current installation guide documents a single Z80 daughtercard installation on a compatible original Galaxian PCB.
Confirm the original board is fully operational before installing the HighScoreSaves kit.
Disconnect cabinet power, remove the board safely, and label connectors and their orientation before installation.
Locate the documented Z80 processor on the Galaxian PCB and carefully remove it from its socket.
Install the Z80 on the HighScoreSaves daughterboard while carefully maintaining the correct Pin 1 orientation.
Install the completed daughterboard into the original Z80 socket and verify alignment and all processor pins.
Confirm that nothing on the original Galaxian PCB contacts the underside of the new daughterboard. The current guide notes that some original test points may need to be carefully moved away.
Galaxian ROM Saver
ROM Saver support allows designated original Galaxian program-ROM hardware to be removed when using the supported ROM Saver configuration.
Remove only the hardware identified by the current installation documentation. Do not remove unrelated ROMs, chips, or components.
Standard and Wi-Fi Enabled Galaxian Kits
Wi-Fi can be disabled without affecting Galaxian gameplay, Free Play, local score saving, score tables, ROM Saver support, bullet-speed selection, or menu settings.

Which arcade PCB does this kit support?
The current installation guide states that the kit works on a compatible original Galaxian PCB.
Which processor is required?
A compatible Z80 processor and compatible 40-pin processor socket are required.
Can I reuse my original Z80?
Yes. The installation guide instructs you to transfer the original compatible Z80 from the Galaxian PCB to the HighScoreSaves daughterboard.
Can I change the Galaxian bullet speed?
Yes. The kit provides Original and FAST bullet-speed options through the HighScoreSaves menu.
What should I check after installing the daughterboard?
Verify Pin 1 orientation, socket alignment, every processor pin, and underside clearance. Nothing on the original PCB should contact the underside of the new daughterboard.
Does installation require soldering?
No soldering is normally required when the Z80 location already has a compatible 40-pin socket. A soldered processor must be properly removed and socketed by a qualified arcade technician first.
Are upright and cocktail cabinets supported?
Yes. Current product documentation lists documented upright and cocktail cabinet configurations.
How do I enter the settings menu?
Hold Player 1 Start while powering the cabinet on and release the button when the on-screen prompt tells you to continue.
Is Wi-Fi required?
No. Standard kits save supported scores, initials, and settings locally. Wi-Fi is optional for supported online leaderboard submission.
