What the Time Pilot High Score Save Kit Adds

The Time Pilot Free Play and High Score Save Kit adds useful modern features to an original Konami Time Pilot arcade PCB without replacing the game with a multicade computer or unrelated emulation platform.

In addition to permanent score saving and Free Play, the kit provides attract sounds, menu-driven settings, separate score tables for supported lives settings, score backup and restore, ROM Saver functionality, fast self-test access, and optional online leaderboard support.

Compatibility and What to Check Before Ordering

  • PCB: Designed for compatible original Konami Time Pilot arcade hardware.
  • Processor: Uses a Z80 processor.
  • Processor Socket: The Z80 location must have a proper 40-pin socket for normal kit installation.
  • Cabinets: Supports upright and cocktail Time Pilot cabinets.
  • Original Program ROMs: May optionally be removed when using the kit's ROM Saver functionality.

Check the PCB before ordering. If the Z80 processor is soldered directly to the board, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed before the kit can be fitted.

Choose Your Time Pilot Kit Configuration

Select either a Standard Save Kit or a Wi-Fi Enabled Kit when ordering.

Standard Save Kit

Saves scores permanently on the kit and includes the core Free Play, attract-sound, menu, backup, and high score features without online connectivity.

Wi-Fi Enabled Kit

Includes the same local high score features and adds support for uploading qualifying scores to the HighScoreSaves online leaderboard using a compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

Wi-Fi hardware must be selected when ordering and cannot be added later to a Standard kit.

Settings Menu Access

Kit configuration is accessed using the cabinet's Player 1 Start button, so no additional external control is required for normal settings-menu access.

  • Open the Settings Menu: Power the cabinet off, hold the Player 1 Start button, power the cabinet back on, and release the button when prompted.

Time Pilot Kit Features

  • Permanent High Score Saving: Stores the Top 5 scores with initials
  • Serial EEPROM: Reliable nonvolatile score storage without a battery
  • Separate Score Tables: Different high score tables for 2, 3, or 4 lives
  • Free Play: Play without coins while retaining traditional coin-up operation
  • Coin-Up Support: Continue using quarters or tokens when desired
  • Attract Sounds: Enable game sound during the attract-mode rotation
  • On-Screen DIP Settings: Configure supported settings through the kit menu
  • Attract Mode: Helps reduce long periods of static display content
  • ROM Saver: Original program ROMs may optionally be removed
  • Backup and Restore: Back up saved high scores and restore them later
  • Fast Self-Test Access: Access self-test from the kit menu or with all supported DIP switches set to OFF
  • Copyright Display: Select the original manufacturer or HighScoreSaves message
  • Cabinet Compatibility: Supports upright and cocktail cabinets
  • Optional Wi-Fi: Compatible kits can upload qualifying scores to the online leaderboard

Installation Notes

  • Socketed Z80 Required: The kit installs at the Z80 processor location on the original Time Pilot PCB.
  • No Soldering on a Properly Socketed PCB: If the Z80 is already installed in the correct socket, no soldering is required for normal kit installation.
  • Unsocketed PCB: If the Z80 is soldered directly to the board, a 40-pin socket must be installed before fitting the kit.
  • Orientation Matters: Follow the installation guide and verify processor and kit orientation before powering the cabinet.

Optional Wi-Fi and Online High Scores

Choose the Wi-Fi Enabled version if you want your compatible Time Pilot cabinet to upload qualifying scores to the HighScoreSaves online leaderboard in addition to saving scores locally.

Wi-Fi kits use a compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. The Standard kit does not require a network connection and keeps scores locally.
