The HighScoreSaves Space Duel Free Play and High Score Save Kit upgrades documented compatible original Atari Space Duel vector arcade hardware with permanent Top 10 high score saving with initials, Free Play, adjustable attract sounds, lives-based score tables, menu-driven settings, ROM Saver, Backup and Restore, Fast Boot, Reset Button operation, Stealth Mode, and optional Wi-Fi leaderboard support while retaining the original Atari arcade hardware.
Space Duel Compatibility & Requirements
Installation: Plug-in installation when the original 6502 processor location is already properly socketed. No soldering, trace cutting, special wiring, or permanent PCB modification is required in that configuration. If the original 6502 is soldered directly to the PCB, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed first.

Standard vs. Wi-Fi Kit
Standard Kit
Stores supported Space Duel scores and settings locally and provides normal gameplay, Free Play, Coin-Up operation, attract sounds, ROM Saver, Backup and Restore, separate score tables, Fast Boot, Reset Button operation, and Stealth Mode without requiring an internet connection.
Wi-Fi Enabled Kit
Includes the same local functionality and adds qualifying online leaderboard score submission through the HighScoreSaves platform.
Wi-Fi can be disabled without affecting local score saving or normal gameplay. Wi-Fi-enabled kits use compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.

Does this kit require an original Atari Space Duel PCB?
Yes. The kit is designed for documented compatible original Atari Space Duel vector arcade PCBs.
Does the 6502 processor location need to be socketed?
Yes. The documented 6502 processor location must use a compatible 40-pin socket before the daughterboard can be installed.
Does installation require soldering?
No soldering is required when the documented 6502 location is already properly socketed. If the processor is soldered directly to the PCB, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed first.
How many Space Duel high scores are saved?
The kit permanently saves the Top 10 supported Space Duel scores with player initials.
Which lives settings have separate score tables?
Independent supported score tables are maintained for 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-life configurations.
Can I use both Free Play and normal coin operation?
Yes. Free Play is available while normal Coin-Up operation remains supported for cabinets using quarters or tokens.
Does the kit support attract sounds?
Yes. Attract sounds can be configured for 25%, 50%, or 100% of supported attract cycles.
Does the kit support upright and cocktail cabinets?
Yes. The kit supports documented compatible upright and cocktail Space Duel cabinet configurations.
What does ROM Saver do?
ROM Saver allows designated original program ROMs to be removed when the kit is installed according to the Space Duel installation guide.
What does the Wi-Fi version add?
Both versions save supported scores locally. The Wi-Fi Enabled version also adds qualifying online score submission to the HighScoreSaves leaderboard.
