Scramble Free Play and High Score Save Kit for Original Arcade PCB

Upgrade your Scramble arcade PCB with Free Play, permanent Top 10 high score saving, attract sounds, menu-based settings, ROM Saver functionality and optional Wi-Fi leaderboard support while continuing to use the original arcade hardware.

The kit installs at the main Z80 processor location and uses your existing Z80 or an optional replacement processor. If your CPU is already socketed, installation of the kit itself requires no soldering. If the Z80 is soldered directly to the PCB, a compatible 40-pin socket must be installed first.

Scramble PCB Installation Requirements

The Scramble kit installs on the lower PCB of the two-board Scramble stack at the main Z80 processor location. The original or replacement Z80 is removed from the Scramble PCB, installed on the HighScoreSaves daughter card, and the completed daughter card is then installed in the Z80 socket.

  • PCB: Scramble arcade PCB.
  • Processor: Z80.
  • Socket: Compatible 40-pin CPU socket required.
  • If your Z80 is socketed: The kit installation itself requires no soldering.
  • If your Z80 is soldered: A 40-pin socket must be installed before fitting the kit.
  • Clearance: Check that test points or other components do not contact the underside of the installed daughter card.

Review the installation guide before removing the CPU or ordering socket-related options so you can compare the examples with your actual PCB.

How to Enter the Scramble Kit Settings Menu

With the game powered off, press and hold Player 1 Start. Turn the cabinet on while continuing to hold Player 1 Start, then release the button when prompted on screen. The kit will open the main settings menu.

The on-screen menu provides access to supported gameplay, score-saving and kit configuration options without requiring routine adjustment of the physical PCB DIP switches.

Scramble Free Play and High Score Save Kit FAQ

Does installation require soldering?

Not when the main Z80 is already socketed. If the processor is soldered directly to the Scramble PCB, a compatible 40-pin socket must first be installed, which does require soldering or socket-installation service.

How many high scores are saved?

The kit permanently saves the Top 10 scores and maintains separate score tables for supported 2, 3 and 4 lives settings.

Are scores lost when the cabinet is turned off?

No. High scores and supported settings are stored in serial EEPROM and remain saved without cabinet power.

Can I still use coins?

Yes. Free Play can be used for coin-free operation while normal coin operation remains available when preferred.

Do I need to purchase a Z80 with the kit?

No. You may reuse a compatible existing Z80. A replacement Z80 is available as an optional product selection if needed.

What does the Wi-Fi version add?

Both versions save scores locally. The Wi-Fi Enabled version also adds supported online score uploading to the HighScoreSaves leaderboard system.
