Upgrade a documented compatible original Namco Galaga 3 / Gaplus arcade PCB with Free Play, permanent Top 5 score saving, 16 separate score tables, battery-free serial EEPROM storage, attract sounds, menu-driven settings, ROM Saver support, and optional Wi-Fi leaderboard submission.
This HighScoreSaves daughterboard continues to use the original Namco arcade PCB, controls, graphics, sound hardware, timing, and gameplay. It does not replace the original game board with an emulator, reproduction PCB, or generic multicade system.

Upgrade Original Namco Galaga 3 / Gaplus Hardware
This kit adds modern score-saving, Free Play, menu, and optional networking features while continuing to operate the original Namco arcade PCB.
Original control input, video generation, sound hardware, board timing, and game behavior remain part of the original arcade system.
The HighScoreSaves board installs at the original 6809E processor location rather than replacing the arcade PCB with an emulated game platform.
Free Play and Permanent High Scores
Permanently retains the five highest supported scores after cabinet power is removed.
Uses serial EEPROM storage rather than batteries or NVRAM for supported saved-score data.
Maintains individual supported score tables across difficulty and lives-setting combinations.
Back up and restore supported saved score data through the kit menu.
Play without inserting coins when Free Play is enabled.
Continue using normal coin operation when Free Play is disabled.
Attract Sounds, Screen Saver, and Menu Settings
- Attract sounds: Enable supported sound during attract operation.
- Attract-mode screen saver: Helps reduce long periods of static imagery during idle operation.
- Menu-driven DIP settings: Adjust supported game and operator settings through the on-screen menu.
- ROM Saver: Allows the documented original program ROMs to be removed if desired.
- Saved configuration: Supported settings remain stored locally by the kit.
Galaga 3 / Gaplus Settings Menu Access
With the cabinet powered off, press and hold Player 1 Start while turning the game on.
Release Player 1 Start when the on-screen prompt instructs you to continue. This opens the protected main settings menu.
Galaga 3 / Gaplus PCB Installation
The current installation guide documents a single 6809E daughtercard installation on compatible original Galaga 3 / Gaplus PCB hardware.
Confirm that the original Galaga 3 / Gaplus arcade PCB is fully operational before installing the kit.
Disconnect cabinet power, remove the board safely, label all connectors, and record their orientation before installation.
Identify the original 6809E processor shown in the current installation guide.
Carefully remove the 6809E from its original socket and retain the processor for installation on the HighScoreSaves daughterboard.
Install the processor on the kit while carefully maintaining correct Pin 1 orientation.
Install the completed HighScoreSaves daughterboard into the original 6809E socket and verify alignment before powering the cabinet.
Program ROM Removal Is Optional
The current installation guide states that the documented original program ROMs may be removed when using ROM Saver.
If you choose to leave the program ROMs installed, the guide shows that a spacer can be used to provide the necessary daughterboard clearance. Do not remove unrelated ROMs or components.
Standard and Wi-Fi Enabled Galaga 3 / Gaplus Kits
Wi-Fi can be disabled without affecting Galaga 3 / Gaplus gameplay, Free Play, local score saving, score tables, ROM Saver, or supported menu settings.

Yes. The current guide instructs you to remove the original 6809E and install it on the HighScoreSaves daughterboard. A compatible processor option may also be selected when ordering.
Do the original program ROMs have to be removed?
No. Program-ROM removal is optional according to the current guide. If the ROMs remain installed, a spacer can be used to provide daughterboard clearance.
How many high scores are saved?
The kit saves the Top 5 supported scores and maintains 16 separate score tables for supported difficulty and lives combinations.
Does installation require soldering?
No soldering is normally required when the 6809E processor location already has a compatible 40-pin socket. A soldered processor must be properly removed and socketed by a qualified arcade technician first.
Does the kit support upright and cocktail cabinets?
Yes. The current product documentation lists supported upright and cocktail configurations.
How do I enter the settings menu?
