Darksoft CPS2 Multigame Kit | Champion Edition
Product information "Darksoft CPS2 Multigame Kit | Champion Edition"
Darksoft CPS2 Champion Edition Multigame Kit
The Darksoft CPS2 Champion Edition Multigame Kit allows supported CPS2 games to run on compatible original Capcom CPS2 arcade hardware. The kit installs on an original CPS2 B-board and operates with a compatible CPS2 A-board, preserving the original Capcom hardware platform rather than replacing it with an emulation system.
Supported games are selected from a microSD card with the included LCD selector and written to flash memory. The selected game remains stored after power is removed and stays loaded until another title is written.
Champion Edition Improvements
- Streamlined installation compared with earlier Darksoft CPS2 kits
- No B-board jumper configuration or replacement PAL chip required
- No modification to the original CPS2 plastic shell is required
- Direct key-writing connection on supported B-board revisions equipped with the CN9 connector
- Included LCD selector for choosing games stored on the microSD card
- Flash storage retains the selected game after power is removed
Required CPS2 Hardware
- A compatible original Capcom CPS2 A-board and B-board combination
- A donor B-board that is already batteryless
- A compatible microSD card prepared with the required CPS2 folder and file structure
- A working arcade cabinet or compatible test setup
Do not intentionally disable or damage a working battery-backed CPS2 board for this installation. Use a donor B-board that is already batteryless.
CPS2 B-Board Revisions and Key Writing
B-Boards with the CN9 Connector
The preferred B-board revisions include a factory CN9 connector for the key-writing cable:
- 93646B-5
- 93646B-6
- 93646B-7
- 97691A-3
These revisions allow the multigame board’s J18 header to connect to the B-board through the appropriate key-writing adapter cable without soldering to the B-board.
Older B-Boards Without CN9
Revisions 93646B-3 and 93646B-4 are compatible, but they do not include the CN9 connector.
Using key writing with these revisions requires four wires to be soldered between the multigame board’s J18 connection and the B-board’s CN2 interface. This work should be completed only by someone experienced with precise arcade-PCB soldering.
Original or Decrypted Game Sets
The Champion Edition firmware supports original unmodified CPS2 game data when the key-writing connection is installed correctly. Without the key-writing connection, compatible decrypted or patched game sets must be used.
Preparing the Donor B-Board
- Disconnect all power before removing or opening the CPS2 board set.
- Open the B-board shell using the correct security Torx screwdriver.
- Remove the socketed EPROMs and Mask ROMs identified in the installation guide.
- Leave all sockets and components specifically marked as not requiring removal in place.
- Inspect the exposed ROM sockets for damage, contamination, or bent contacts before installing the multigame boards.
Follow the guide photographs carefully. Do not remove components based only on their appearance or location.
Installing the Champion Edition Boards
Install the Smaller Multigame PCB
Position the smaller multigame PCB above the designated B-board sockets. Confirm that every pin is aligned, then press the board into place gradually by alternating between its corners and center.
Install the Spacers and Main PCB
Fit the supplied plastic spacers before installing the larger main multigame PCB. Align all connectors and socket pins before applying gentle, even pressure.
Install the Bridging PCB
The small bridging PCB joins the two multigame boards. Install it only in the orientation shown in the guide and confirm that all pins are fully inserted. Incorrect orientation prevents the kit from operating.
Connect the Key-Writing Cable
When using original unmodified game data, connect the multigame board’s J18 header to the B-board’s CN9 connector or complete the documented CN2 solder connections for older B-board revisions.
Important Pin-Alignment Warning
The multigame PCBs contain many pins that must enter the original B-board sockets correctly. Never apply pressure until every pin and connector is aligned. Bent pins, damaged sockets, or an incorrectly installed bridging board can prevent the kit from operating and may damage the hardware.
LCD Game Selector
- Connect the LCD selector to the main multigame PCB with the supplied 14-pin ribbon cable.
- Use the three LCD buttons to browse and select games stored on the microSD card.
- LCD contrast can be adjusted with the trim control on the main multigame PCB.
- The selected game remains stored in flash memory until another game is chosen and written.
Preparing the microSD Card
A compatible microSD card is required and is not included. The installation guide recommends genuine cards from established brands purchased through reputable sellers.
Format the card as FAT32. The root of the card must
contain the required games directory with the individual
supported game folders beneath it.
macOS users should remove hidden files and folders created on removable
media before using the card. Review the dot_clean
instructions in the installation guide.
Important Before Installation
- Use only an already-batteryless donor B-board.
- Confirm that the CPS2 A-board and B-board are compatible with each other.
- Remove only the ROM devices identified in the installation guide.
- Confirm the B-board revision before selecting a key-writing connection method.
- Older B-board revisions may require four precise solder connections.
- Do not force any multigame PCB or bridging board onto misaligned pins.
- Disconnect power and discharge static before handling the CPS2 boards or multigame components.
- Only use game data that you are legally entitled to possess and operate.

Bought a few of the Darksoft kits at the start of the year. Amazingly fast tracking provided and delivery was great. Kits were sent with signature required. Got them all installed and work great! Preordered the MVS coming out soon too! I'll be back for more (and tell all of my friends where to buy them at)
Thank you!
