The HighScoreSaves Crazy Climber Free Play and High Score Save Kit upgrades a documented compatible original Nichibutsu Crazy Climber arcade PCB with Free Play, permanent Top 5 high score saving, adjustable attract sounds, separate score tables, menu-driven settings, Reset, Fast Boot, ROM Saver, and optional Wi-Fi leaderboard support while retaining the original Nichibutsu hardware and gameplay.
Crazy Climber Compatibility & Requirements
Installation: The original custom CPU block is removed from the documented D6/7 location. A compatible standard Z80 is installed on the HighScoreSaves daughterboard, and the daughterboard plugs into the socket formerly used by the custom CPU.

Standard Z80 required: the original Crazy Climber custom CPU cannot be used with this kit. Supply a compatible standard Z80 or select the optional Z80 when ordering.
Standard vs. Wi-Fi Kit
Standard Kit
Saves supported scores, settings, and configuration data locally on the installed Crazy Climber kit. No internet connection is required.
Wi-Fi Enabled Kit
Includes the same local features and can also submit qualifying completed scores to the HighScoreSaves online leaderboard.
Wi-Fi can be disabled without affecting local score saving, Free Play, Coin-Up operation, settings, Backup and Restore, Reset, Fast Boot, ROM Saver operation, or normal gameplay. Wi-Fi-enabled kits use compatible 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks.
Crazy Climber Kit FAQ
How do I enter the Crazy Climber kit settings menu?
Hold Player 1 Start for approximately 4 seconds while turning on the cabinet. The settings menu video above shows the available options and controls.
Which processor does the Crazy Climber kit require?
A compatible standard Z80 processor is required. The original Crazy Climber custom CPU cannot be used with the HighScoreSaves kit, so a standard Z80 must be installed on the daughterboard before installation.
How are Crazy Climber high scores organized?
The kit permanently stores the Top 5 supported scores and maintains separate supported high score tables for two-, three-, four-, and five-life settings.
What does “NO CC7 ROM FOUND OR UNKNOWN DATA” mean?
This message can appear when the CC7 sound ROM is missing, corrupt, or contains data the kit does not recognize. Enter the settings menu, set Sound to Standard USA, and save the setting to bypass the CC7 checksum check.
Will the Wi-Fi kit still save scores if Wi-Fi is disabled?
Yes. Local score saving, Free Play, Coin-Up operation, settings, Backup and Restore, Reset, Fast Boot, and normal gameplay continue to work when Wi-Fi is disabled or unavailable.

A must-have for Crazy Climber owners
I installed this kit in my original Crazy Climber PCB, and it worked perfectly. The instructions were clear, installation was easier than I expected, and the board booted right up. Free play is a great convenience, but the high score save feature really brings the game to life since our scores are finally preserved between power cycles.
The kit is high quality, installs without modifying the original PCB, and has been completely reliable. Shipping was fast, everything was well packaged, and customer support was excellent when I had a question before ordering. If you're restoring or maintaining an original Crazy Climber cabinet, this is an upgrade that's absolutely worth it. Highly recommended!
