How the Four-Player Add-On Connects

The add-on installs at the 40-pin ribbon-cable header on the full-size ARpiCADE JAMMA Adapter. The Raspberry Pi ribbon cable is disconnected from the main board, the four-player add-on is installed on the main board’s 40-pin header, and the Raspberry Pi ribbon cable is then connected to the 40-pin header on the add-on.

The cabinet must be powered off during installation. Carefully align the add-on board, main-board header, and Raspberry Pi ribbon cable before applying power.

Player 3 and Player 4 Connections

The add-on provides separate Player 3 and Player 4 connections for compatible multiplayer cabinet wiring. It includes two header arrangements:

• Konami-style headers for compatible dedicated multiplayer cabinet wiring
• NBA Jam-style headers for compatible Midway-style multiplayer cabinet wiring

Use only the header set that matches the cabinet configuration. Do not connect both header styles at the same time.

Control Harness Requirements

Compatible Player 3 and Player 4 control harnesses are required unless the cabinet already has wiring that directly matches the selected ARpiCADE header arrangement. The add-on board does not create physical joystick, button, start, or coin connections without the required cabinet wiring.

Confirm the cabinet’s existing control connectors before ordering. Harnesses, joysticks, pushbuttons, control panels, and cabinet wiring are not included with this adapter-only listing.

Player 3 and Player 4 Inputs

The Konami-style Player 3 and Player 4 headers support:

• Coin input
• Start button
• Up, down, left, and right joystick directions
• Action buttons 1, 2, and 3
• Optional action buttons 4, 5, and 6

Optional Six-Button Support

The Konami-style headers can be configured to support up to six action buttons for Player 3 and Player 4. Set all onboard DIP switches to the ON position only when buttons 4, 5, and 6 are required.

For original Konami-style four-player cabinets using the standard three-button arrangement, leave all six DIP switches in the OFF position. Keep all six switches together in either the ON or OFF position rather than mixing settings.

Power and Software Requirements

The add-on receives power through the required ARpiCADE main board and the cabinet’s properly regulated JAMMA power supply. It does not require a separate external power supply.

A compatible ARpiCADE software configuration with four-player input support is also required. Player order and control assignments may need to be configured according to the cabinet, game collection, Raspberry Pi model, and ARpiCADE software version.

Important Installation Precaution

1. Turn off and unplug the arcade cabinet.
2. Disconnect the Raspberry Pi ribbon cable from the ARpiCADE main board.
3. Align and install the four-player add-on on the main board’s 40-pin header.
4. Connect the Raspberry Pi ribbon cable to the add-on’s 40-pin header.
5. Connect only the Player 3 and Player 4 harnesses that match the cabinet wiring.
